Greater Newark Holiday Fund Aid to Local Service Agencies Reaches $250,000
Distribution of Additional $50,000 Helps North Jersey’s Neediest
NEWARK, NJ (January 3, 2012) — NEWARK, NJ (January 17, 2011) — With two weeks still to go in its annual campaign, which ends January 31, the Greater Newark Holiday Fund (GNHF; www.holidayfund.org) has already distributed $250,000 to provide relief to the needy throughout northern New Jersey.
“We just sent another $50,000 to local service agencies, bringing this year’s total to a quarter of a million dollars,” said Ted Zangari, a member of New Jersey’s Sills Cummis & Gross commercial law firm and Chair of the Fund’s 2011 campaign. “That’s the direct result of a heart-warming response from the generous people, businesses, and organizations of New Jersey.
“Now we’re calling on our neighbors to help us make the 2011 campaign even more memorable with a final surge in donations to this wonderful cause.”
GNHF’s first two distributions were for $100,000 each. Funds collected by GNHF go to twelve social service agencies that help the homeless and destitute, children and the elderly, families and individuals throughout Essex, Union, Passaic, Hudson, Morris, and Bergen counties.
Since 1937, according to Frank Ferruggia, GNHF president and a partner at Newark-based law firm McCarter & English LLP, the Fund has been assisting individuals and families who are in need of help during the holidays, when resources are at their scarcest. “These donations make the holidays brighter for people who might otherwise do without some of the basics of life,” said Ferruggia.

Greater Newark Holiday Fund Launches 2011 Campaign
$18,000 Already Donated to Help North Jersey’s Neediest
NEWARK, NJ (November 13, 2011) — The Greater Newark Holiday Fund (GNHF; www.holidayfund.org) officially kicked off its 2011 campaign this week. The Fund, which collects money to help needy individuals and families in six counties of northern New Jersey, has already received $18,000 in donations toward its $400,000 goal.
Founded in 1937, GNHF channels contributions through 12 social service agencies to assist individuals and families in crisis, including children, the elderly, the homeless, and the destitute. The funds are used to help people in Essex, Union, Passaic, Hudson, Morris, and Bergen counties during the holiday season.
“Last year the Fund achieved strong results in spite of a stressful economy,” said Frank Ferruggia, GNHF President and a partner at Newark law firm McCarter & English LLP. “We are confident that this year the generous people of New Jersey will help us do even more for their less fortunate neighbors. We’re asking that people give generously to make the holidays happier for those who need a helping hand.”
Ted Zangari of Sills Cummis & Gross, a leading New Jersey law firm headquartered in Newark, is Chair of the 2011 GNHF campaign, which runs through January 15, 2012. More information on the Fund and its goals is available at www.holidayfund.org. Visitors may donate on line or by calling 1-866-292-HOPE (4673). Newark Lawyer Donated Lunch Money to Fund as a Schoolboy; Calls for Broader Business Support for “New Jersey Institution”
NEWARK, NJ (November 12, 2010) — Ted Zangari, a member of the Sills Cummis & Gross commercial law firm based in New Jersey, will serve as Chair of the 2011 campaign for the Greater Newark Holiday Fund (GNHF; www.holidayfund.org).
“I’ve followed GNHF since I was a kid, so it’s a wonderful honor to be chairing its 2011 campaign,” said Zangari. “During the holidays I’d grab the Sunday Star Ledger and be inspired by stories of how the Fund came to the assistance of people and families who were having a tough time. I’d send part of my lunch money to help out.”
Zangari was born in Irvington, and has spent his career in New Jersey. He serves on the Executive Committee of Sills Cummis and is chair of the firm’s Redevelopment Law and Public Policy practice groups. He routinely handles complex business transactions across the country and also assists clients in the ways that government and business intersect on a broad range of legislative and regulatory matters. He also serves on the boards of several local and statewide organizations, including the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce and the Newark Alliance. He is also the founder of the Smart Growth Economic Development Coalition, a federation of three dozen business, professional and labor organizations that crafted an “economic recovery strategy” in 2008 which has been the impetus for many recent legislative efforts in Trenton to attract and retain businesses in New Jersey. He is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center and a resident of Morris Township.
“My goal is to extend the reach of GNHF,” he said. “These are difficult times, and we need broader business support for this New Jersey institution. We also need to reach the public in new ways, such as electronic and online media, to supplement The Star Ledger’s magnificent commitment.”
For 74 years GNHF has raised money during the winter holidays to help local agencies meet the needs of less fortunate residents of Essex, Union, Passaic, Hudson, Morris, and Bergen counties. The people these organizations serve include abused and neglected children, the homeless, people in poverty and the elderly.
“Ted Zangari is a distinguished member of our legal community who can galvanize support for our mission among business and civic leaders and the public at large,” said Frank Ferruggia, GNHF president and a partner at Newark-based law firm McCarter & English LLP. “I am confident that his energy and creativity will make our upcoming campaign a huge success.
“The Holiday Fund is very lucky to have Ted at its helm this year.”
The official 2011 GNHF campaign kicks off on November 13, but the Fund accepts donations throughout the year. Full information is available at www.holidayfund.org.
