The Greater Newark Holiday Fund has been around for 80 years and is a registered 501C(3) charitable organization dedicated to helping families in crisis during the holiday season and all year round. We make our annual appeal for donations that support the work of 11 social service agencies in the northern New Jersey area. These agencies provide financial assistance and vital services to those less fortunate in our community.
Yes. A donation to the Greater Newark Holiday Fund may be used as a charitable deduction on your income tax, subject to normal guidelines and regulations. Consult your tax adviser for more information.
Our mission is to help families in crisis regardless of race, religion, ethnicity or country of origin. The Fund’s partner agencies deliver social services and direct assistance to people of all ages; from children in need of foster care or adoptive homes to the elderly who require assistance in their daily lives. We serve the economically disadvantaged, mentally or physically challenged, victims of crime or violence, military families, and others who need a helping hand.
The Greater Newark Holiday Fund supports social services in six New Jersey counties: Essex, Union, Passaic, Hudson, Morris and Bergen.
We work with 11 social service agencies across northern New Jersey. They include outstanding independent charities and regional branches of nationally famous organizations. Each agency has a long history of providing effective, cost-efficient aid to individuals and families. Click here to see full list of agencies supported.
On average over 75% of the total raised by the Greater Newark Holiday Fund goes to our agency partners. We are able to do this by keeping our administrative costs to a minimum.
Yes. Although our public fund-raising campaign runs from mid-November through mid-January, we welcome contributions throughout the year. We hold the money for distribution to our partner agencies during the holiday period. That is when they need it most, at the end of the year when the cold creates greater hardships and budgets are ending. Our campaign runs during that same period because that’s when people open their hearts in a special way to the needs of others. We believe a holiday appeal is the most effective way of focusing their attention on the less fortunate.
Donations to the 2014 campaign may be made through January 31, 2015. Contributions made after January 31, 2015 are applied to the 2015 campaign. These donations will be acknowledged shortly after the launch of the 2015 campaign.
